There was a man from Chu who wanted to sell his pearl in Zheng. He dressed it up beautifully and adorned it with colorful brocade, weighting it with precious stones. The people of Zheng bought the pearl and looked at it, only to find that it was a fish eye. The people of Zheng said, “What is so special about this pearl?” The man from Chu said, “This is a pearl from the East Sea, and those who find it become rich and honored, so I treasure it.” The people of Zheng said, “I have heard that there is a tiger in the East Sea, whose might is enough to subdue the world. I want to take advantage of the tiger’s might to deceive people. Is it possible?” The people of Zheng said, “I have heard that the tiger’s might is feared by all. However, the tiger does not have real might, but only a虚名. I have heard that those who take advantage of the tiger’s might will never succeed.”
