永州之野产异蛇，黑质而白章，触草木，尽死；以啮人，无御之者。然得而腊之以为饵，可以已大风、挛踠、瘘、疥，去死肌，杀三虫。其始，太医以王命聚之，岁赋其二。募有能捕之者，当其租入。十人余得黑蛇一条，即屠以供上，受金钱三十。余闻而愈惊。夫蛇，恶物也，黑质而白章，触草木，尽死；以啮人，无御之者。又安用捕之？然得而腊之以为饵，可以已大风、挛踠、瘘、疥，去死肌，杀三虫。其始，太医以王命聚之，岁赋其二。募有能捕之者，当其租入。十人余得黑蛇一条，即屠以供上，受金钱三十。余闻而愈惊。

In the wilds of Yongzhou, there are strange snakes, with black bodies and white patterns. When they touch plants and trees, they all die; when they bite people, there is no way to resist them. However, if they are caught and dried into a bait, they can cure leprosy, cramps, goiter, scabies, remove dead skin, and kill three kinds of parasites. At first, the royal physician gathered them under imperial order, collecting two a year. Those who could catch them were to receive their rent. More than ten people caught one black snake, and it was slaughtered to provide for the emperor, receiving thirty pieces of gold. Upon hearing this, I was even more surprised.
